A few years back, I installed a remote starter in two of my vehicles: a '93 X and '99 Silverado. Both were fairly simple, but wound up taking the better part of a Saturday to install.

On the '93, it involved splicing into the wiring harness, installing relays for the door locks, etc. It worked great since the '93 didn't have a fob or remote locks from the factory.

Now I have an '05 and would like to install one in it. I know that I'm going to need a bypass for the PATS, but my main question is - how tough is it to install? Does it require splicing into the harness as the old one or does it plug right in (wishful thinking I'm guessing).

In any case, if anyone has installed one themselves, I'd love to get an idea of how much time (read hassle) it's going to be.

I'm also interested in getting one for the wife. Surely someone has done this and will chime in.

I did a starter/alarm with my own technical support from a friend.
It took me a weekend to do it.
