Good Morning. I need to replace the left (drivers side) rear tail light assembly on my neighbors 2003 Ford Explorer which I accidently smashed. I have no idea how to remove the old assembly, and install the new. Can anyone provide a how to, or perhaps a diagram. I need to do this today, so any quick response will be greatly appreciated. An illustration or diagram would be helpful. Thank you in advance

it should have a couple screws on top or maybe on bottom then once those are removed you can gently pull it out it will have little clip like things holding it in. good luck.

Would the screws be in the tailgate jam or in the trim in the cargo area. I possibly am not looking in the right area

Piece of cake.
First pop the rear hatch door open(the whole thing, not just the window)
Now on the left side side where the door was there should be a few plastic screws, just loosen them and then pry them out(however they come out).
Then there should be a panel that comes off and you should be able to see a bolt that needs to come loose, after you take that out, I think the rear light assembly comes loose.

Ive dont this before, and am going by memory, it may not be exact.
Just look for any panel or screws/bolts around the Light assembly.
I figuared it out on my own last time.

Time out! Where are you located Sparkyrhett? Just the state? I will post pics for you, but did you already pay for a new cover?

Is there a story to go along with this?

03 removal...

two screws...
remove screws with a phillip's head screw driver
slowly pry the assembly away from the vehicle
it will sound like it's breaking once the inner screw pops out, but it's not...
twist loose the bulbs/attachments
replace lamp
place the inner screw back in its slot, and reverse the process...
make sure the tail light snaps into place and then put the screws back in

(if it doesn't snap back into place, you will need to adjust that inner screw by twisting it forward until it is long enough to snap into place...

Donner: I am in Kentucky, and yes, I have already paid 70.00 for the whole assembly.
Storlied: I was asked by the neighbor if I would help him by moving his vehicle from his drive whilst he moved another vehicle from his garage. I backed the Explorer out of his driveway right into his mailbox knocking it down and smashing the rear light assembly. The mail box post went right through the assembly.

Well, good luck with that... if you have any issues with it, just repost here. If you happen to smash the light again, pm me before you buy. I have an extra set in the garage, limo tint and OEM, hook up your neighbor's ride! :D
