Removing button from rearview mirror

helping a co-worker 1993 Tarus rearview mirror fell off windshield, there is no set screw. How do you get the button off the mirror so he can glue the button back on the windsheild?

I am aware Ford has used two different methods of retaining the "button" to the mirror. One is the set screw design the other uses a spring steel band that's shaped like the letter "C" with the button being held by the two open ends of the "C". Just pry on one of the ends of the "C" and the button can be seperated from the mirror.
