Removing factory stereo

Hello all,
I just bought a new alpine headunit, installation kit and wiring harness. I was wondering what tool to use remove the panel? Also are there any helpful guides that I can use? I have a 1996 ford explorer.

you can take a metal clothes hanger and bend it into a "U" shape. there are two holes on either side of your radio. put the hanger inside of them, pull them towards each other and side the radio out. or, there are two 10mm bolts above the heater controls. undo them, and you can pop the radio bezel out and you will see the clips that hold the radio in.

One more more question, Did I buy the wrong wireing harness? The one I have fits my car but after I plug it in the the factory wires there is just loose wires... and I was under the assumption I would just plug in the harness that came with my HU to a new harness. Any light on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

lol you don't just plug the harness in..the harness is to wire the factory harness to the Head unit. Use solder, crimp caps, magic hell I don't care.

You plug the wiring harness you bought into the one that was in the old head unit, then you have to connect the wires to the wiring harness that came with your new head unit
