For my 98, I had to remove the entire rear panel. First by removing the plastic rivets, then the seat belt screw and one other screw. My sub and amp were held in by screws and clips.
easist way is to just remove the entire panel on the sub side of explorer. pull up the carpet and you'll find several screws on the floor holding the panel down, and then apply firm/even/hard pulling pressure to the plastic push-in pins along the top. I think you may have to take the seatbelt hanger off as well...
Not too difficult....but you may break some of the plastic pins...the replacement kit from ford has all sizes in it for $24.
Its not as hard as it seems. You just have to be very careful when you remove the plastic round things. They will break very easily. I found using two puddy knives on either side works fairly well. Then you just have to remove the screw for the hook above the door and the seatbelt bolt. Pull back the carpet, fold down the back seat, and it should pretty much pull right out. You will have to leave it in the truck because the seatbelt loops through it. The factory sub box is held in with like 5 or 6 bolts, and then the amps have to be unplugged, and it comes right out. Good luck!
I managed to break 2 of the plastic clips removing my rear panel. I'm having trouble removing the seatbelt bolt....is there a trick? Special tool?...or do I need to just put all of my weight into it? Any tips on removing it?
