My dad bought a trailer towing hitch for our explorer a few years ago. It is a square tube, a little narrower than the ones they put on the Suburbans and Tahoes. It was black, but now it has rust all over it and it looks really bad. Anyway to remove rust completely? Or should I just buy another one?

What kind of sand paper should I use to remove the rocker panel rust? It just started to form on my 93 EB

As far as the tube hitch I'd just sand it down really good and paint it a few times. Just take your time and dont just run the paper over it and spray some paint on it, it wont last.

As far as rocker panels, you could always Herculine or Rhinoline them. Or get some of those neat chrome rocker panels.

Best thing to do for the hitch is to have it blast sanded and then powder coat it.
It should be only surface rust if it just has been setting around, so that is pretty easy to get rid of.
Good Luck!!!

It takes more then just sand and paint on rust. It depends on how bad it is, but you can sand it down and then they have stuff you put on to help keep the rust from coming back. Then you can prime it and paint it.

Beavis, on that hitch- Listen to Perry, at least partially. Unless you want it to be an annual project, take it off and have it sandblasted. Powder coat would be the best, but quality rust-inhibiting primer good paint will last a long time. Mechanically removing all of the current rust is the key.

Rocker panels should be treated with chemical rust converter after you sand. Naval jelly or the more modern stuff would be good.
