Posting this up for a friend; me and him plan on fixing his explorer. I think we need to remove & replace the shift cable, but if this sounds like a different problem to you, let me know!
Anyways, this morning, he backed out of the driveway, put it in drive, but it wouldnt shift out of reverse. After about half an hour of blocking the street, his dad got it to shift into drive from underneath (dont know how he did it).
We've got it in the shop now, but it's in park, and while you can move the gear shift lever, it wont actually shift out of park, unless you go underneath and shift the gears manually (again dont know how his dad does it).
It's a 94 Explorer, A/T by the way.
Any ideas?
EDIT Also, we were having problems with 4WD. The lights never came on, so we figured it was the bushing in the motor. Replaced it, and now the light lights up, but it always says 4WD is enabled, but its not - you can sit in the snow and floor it and only the back tires spin. Did we miss something?
