I have a 98 5.0 and the hose that goes from the pass header to the EGR has rotted away. Can I just removed the stupid EGR valve? I already plugged the place in the header where hose came out so that my engine compartment wouldn't get exhaust fumes in it... bad idea?

Are you wanting to eliminate the EGR valve, or just remove it to repair the broken tube? If you want to eliminate it, That wouldn't be a good idea. Not only is it illegal, it will set the check engine light. As far a removing it to repair the hardest part is getting to it. It is just bolted to the plenum with 2 bolts (don't remember what size).

fix the stupid thing....wierd things happen to cars when screwed with:shoot:

EGR Gone...

I have already gotten the egr off... yeah, a royal PITA.. as all my projects , I have everything documented with pics but I guess that I need to figure out what to do next. I have heard that it is ok to remove it but do I have to do anything. I mean, yeah, the CEL is on but what is going to happen? It seems to run ok. I have heard of removing it in mustangs.. (EGR Block off kits) In otherwords... what does the EGR actually do?
