Replacing the radiator on my 2004 and I'm wanting to replace the bypass coolant hose as it is obviously bulging and bound to fail soon. I can't get in there very well so I want to remove the fan. I removed the 4 bolts going into the pulley but the fan won't budge. I gave it a couple whacks but I'm afraid of damaging it. What is the preferred way to break it free without damaging the water pump bearings?

Don't whack it. Go to AutoZone or part source in Canada and rent the fan clutch removal tool. It has a large wrench that uses the 4 bolts you took out as a base and a large thin wrench that fits on the shaft nut to remove it. Don't smack it or you will bugger the clutch.

Oh I'm an idiot. I didn't realize it actually screwed into the pump. I thought it was held on by the 4 bolts like on the other cars I've worked on. DOH.
