I am looking for someone whom has removed their overhead consoel be4. I am trying to remove the center section (black part) from the outer section (grey, sand,) so that I can have the center part painted. If this makes since and you know how it comes apart please let me know. Thanks a bunch.

When I installed my Expedition Overhead console it had 2 screws and 4 metal clips that that snapped in & out. They where kind of tough to get out of the Donor.

Just did that to mine. It has like 8 screws in it that have the allen wrench type heads. An allen wrench is the only thing that takes it apart. Here is a picture of mine painted. Hope that helps.

Mine had two screws in the garage door opener compartment and then two retaining clips towards the front. That removed the entire console. Then the display and the buttons, along with the black pieces seperated. Pretty simple. But the entire console has to be removed first.

Hmmmm I have the sunroof so I am trying to find the screws. I dont want to break anything.

Trckmagik, I can post the back of one if you want. I have one sitting here and can snap shot it and show you exactly what you are looking at. It is the one with the sunroof button instead of the garage door opener. Let me know if you want to see it.

OK, I took 3 pictures of the back of an overhead console for 98's. You will 9 small silver allen head screws that must be removed to seperate the tan trim ring from the black part that you see. Let me know if you need something else.
