repairing climate control unit

My local shop has isolated my A/C woes to the climate control unit and wants to replace it. But, if I can find a electronics repair shop that will give it an overhaul I can save a ton. Does anyone have a reference?

Find one on EBay and replace the whole unit. It's easy to change out once the trim is removed.
If its the auto system there is a test you can do to see if it's failed. Don't know what it is.

You might just have a vacuum leak.
