ok i want more bass in my explorer already, not to much more just a little bit. now my question is, can i just upgrade the factory 8" with a better sub and amp and use the factory enclosure. cuase i dont want to take space with a box if i have one built in, and i was wondering if it can be modded to fit a 10". and possibly use the factory amp, but i dont know if the factory sub is 8,4 or 2 ohms, i figured if it runs at 8 i will buy a 4 ohm, i know it will push the little amp but i i will use it that way till it dies. just let me know what you guy think of this idea and if you have any advice or suggestions i'd be happy to hear them.

JL audio makes an 8" sub that fits in the factory enclosure, and has the right power handling to work with the stock amp. Other board members have also used other brands of subwoofers to replace the stocker. Any 8", 4 ohm sub thats not too deep should work fine. You might not be able to fit a 10" sub in there without some modding, since 10" subs are usually deeper. It's possible, but you'll probably need to add a spacer ring to the front of the enclosure to make up for the extra depth. Also, MTX and JL both make enclosures with 10" subs that take the place of the factory box/sub.

I have an 98 Eddie Bauer with the cd/cass mach system and I was wondering whats the stock amp specs...I cant find anything about it. The guys at BB and CC are like man get an aftermarket and trash that one. But Its my wifes ride and I wanna keep it so any suggestions would be great. Also what is a good 8" sub to replace the stocker?

I'm having a fiberglass box built for a single JL 10W1v2 for my '96 to replace the factory sub and amps. So everything will be behind the panel.

The factory amp is not worth the trouble: if I remember correctly all the connecter cables, output, etc. are properitary ford only... so connecting anything but replacement parts may be a challenge. Unfortunately the Infinity Basslink (around $200) I have is just barely too big to fit under the seat of my 92 explorer, but as far as sound goes, it is very much worth it.
