Replace negative battery cable

Need help in replacing my negative battery cable. 98 Ford explorer, 4.0 sohc vin - e.

Do I remove starter to see where negative cable connects to engine?

Your negative cable is a ground cable. You do NOT have to remove your starter to see where it connects. You should have a negative cable connected already... the one you want to replace.

What is it connected to? Should be frame and/or engine block.

Track your existing cable. It should be heavy gauge wire, like your replacement.
