right so i replaced my upline 02 sensor and i accidently cut my Trans fluid coolant line.

i checked the 02 sensor seems tight i will re check in the morning.

coolant line has been patched and is not leaking .

From what i have read it seems to be either:

i have a loose Cat. Converter heat shield, Or

Exaust leak - could be from sensor

Maybe my lifters, but they never ticked before???

does anyone have good tips to find a exaust leak?

i have also checked these threads.

one two

start it, and listen for the rattle, then crawl under the car, with some heavy gloves on, and press of the sensor, or heat shields, until the rattle stops, and that should help you find it.

my guess is that its a heat shield, as they are often just tacked into place, and rust free easily.

just a question is the heat shield clamped to the side of the transmission considered the cat. heat sheild? or is that a transmission heat shield?

the *Cats* are in the exhaust system, just after where the two pipes from each manifold join into the Y (pipe). Kinda flat, with a hex shape? There should be two of them, in line, one after the other. Tap on them with anything and see if the rattle.
Yeah, +1 on the cat shields being loose.

so the shield clamped to the side of the trans is the cat shield?

Look at anything that looks like a "shield" in the exhaust area. There is most likely a shield protecting the trans from the cats, probably to prevent the trans from cooking. It'll be obvious if it's a "shield", it'll look like a piece of metal whose purpose is to "protect" something from something else.

i know its a shield. but i wanna make sure im talking about the same thing. that i think is loose. i think the cat shield is actually welded on? but this one is kinda clamped onto the side of the trans. not sure how to Re secure it so it wont rattle. if that is what is rattling

The cat shields on the exhaust are welded. I tacked mine back on not to long ago.
I've got a 5spd so don't know what an auto tranny shield looks like.
I take it if you tap on the tranny shield it's loose? Sounds like it's got a tinny rattle? Wouldn't that be a bolt on item?

not sure i will post pix tomorrow of what im talking about. although to me its kind of loud and seems to be in sync with the engine RPM. ill keep checking and post updates.

I found the Loud Rattle. i was working on my cooling system. and i had to remove my fan and shroud. when i reinstalled i missed the two clips at the bottom of the Rad. so the shroud was rattling.

I also have an exhuast leak i think behind my muffler. so that also contributes. but now i have another problem. ill post elsewhere. but my car seems to be burning oil. or running rich. so ill check into that. thanks for responding people
