I had a hole in my bypass hose, so I replaced it yesterday. While I was at it I replaced the thermostat. The leak is fixed, but now my temperature guage still climbs quickly to the half-way point and the fan starts running constantly. When I installed the new hose, I removed the water temperature sensor wire and the entire thermostat housing. Since I removed that wire, do I need to disconnect the battery to reset something in the computer?

I am not sure of the wire you removed, but I myself would check the temp to see what it really is. Stick a thermometer in it and see what it is reading to verify the real temp. If the gauge and the thermometer match look then there is something blocking the water flow. If they do not match then it is an electrical problem and chase that.

Before I even read your post, and only saw your title, my first thought was the temperature sensor. There must be some sort of resistance test you can do on the sensor.

I am guessing place it in a pot of water with a meter on the wires reading resistance and watch to see it increase or decrease as the water warms up to boiling.
