In my 2002 4dr, 4WD V6 4.0L Eddie Bauer with 63,340 miles the oil pressure gauge has occasionally been pegged to zero upon cold start up. Often the gauge will come up after some time and almost always will come up if you shut the engine down and restart.

I purchased the motorcraft pressure switch from a local dealer and installed it today. The only way to get at the switch on the block was to remove the driver side tire and work in through the front side. The unit that came out was somewhat corroded, I wonder if the issue is the electrical return contact as the plug has only one pin? Since I had already purchased a new unit rather than wire brushing/cleaning the old, I installed the new and the gauge is working fine. Will retest on some cold morning when it would sometimes fail.
