ok, I'm kinda frustrated, so ANY help with this prob is MUCH appreciated. I just replaced my Mod. valve today after school and it was a friggin B**** to get to!! But finally after 3.5 hours I got it replaced. So I top off my tranny fluid (one last time I hope) and I take a trip down the road.
Well no more slipping when accelerating from a stop! Goes through 1st fine. Then it gets about time to shift to 2nd and it revs really high, then goes to 2nd. All though 2nd it feels like the TC is barely engaged b/c I'm getting very little acceleration on my way to 3rd. So I stomp it and it acts like it'l downshift and it just revs up to over 4k still without any real acceleration. So even though it doesn't slip going into drive anymore, it's still worse than before!
Here's what I think is wrong: I had another guy helping me that supposedly knew what he was doing (I've always known him to). I told him about the little pin that you're supposed to reuse and he said that this new one already has one in it so I didn't have to worry about it. So I just went along with him ant trusted his knowledge.
So do you guys think that he's right? I didn't see where you could put any little pin into that valve so I have no idea where it goes.
Also, I don't think that valve is an "adjustable" valve b/c I didn't see any wheel or screw on it that I could adjust. So it should be set to opperate exactly like the factory one, right? Sorry for the long-ass post, but I need all the help i can get with this thing so I don't end up havin to get a friggin rebuild.

Someone please reply!! There's almost 30 peeps in this forum alone (when I posted this) any I need help quick! I'm desperate, heh.

The "pin" has it's own part number (7A380). It goes between the vacuum diaphragm and the throttle valve (Part no. 7D080). If the Throttle vavle was not moving freely in it's bore that could cause a problem. I cannot say whether the vacuum modulator you bought had the pion or not, or if maybe the valve itself was sticky. Others here are smarter than me on these things, be patient.

Happy Exploring

Chris

Well, I had to drive it this morning to get to school (where I'm at now) and it slipped a lil goin to 2nd, then it acted normal just like it's drove before I replaced it. So I dunno what's goin on. I hope it just had to get broke in or something but I hope it drives fine now. I really don't feel like doing anything with it again.

modulater valve

hey forder heres the deal you must reuse that pin it is absolutely a must for it work correctly. the adjustment on it should be on the end above the vaccum fitting.to adjust you need a very small screwdriver to fit into the opening to turn.i believe you turn it clockwise to delay shift points, and counter clockwise to decrease shift points. i replaced mine a few weeks ago and it is a b@!&^& to do it was even worse to adjust because of the cat converter.hope this helps you fix your problem

modulater valve

hey forder i also am from the great ky pike county to be exact home of coal mines and not much else other than great 4-wheelin. im now in north carolina about 6 hrs from uter banks.no desire to move back but wouldnt trade my time there for anything just thought id put that out there

Well I got a couple more questions then: Should I not drive it at all with that pin missing? I've been barrowing my moms truck to drive long distances, but I still gotta drive my Ex to school in the mornin every day.
And if I was supposed to reuse my old pin, was it supposed to come out with my old Mod. valve? Cuz nothing came out with it (cept a lotta tranny fluid). I guess it fell out in my tranny, would that damage my tranny if it was in there?
One more, what's the part # for that pin or what is it called exactly so I can tell the parts guy what I need and what's the cost?
I might just take the friggin thing to a tranny shop and let them deal with it cuz I hated that whole expirience of taking it out, I had no idea it'd be that frustrating and time consuming. What makes it worse is all of it was in vein and I got very crappy acceleration now.
Sorry for the long posts, but I need all the help from you guess as I can get. Thanks a lot for the replys guys! I REALLY appreciate it!!!

P.S.: Too bad ya moved Ronnie, I need another Ex to go wheelin with, I'm the only one in my school (and town) that wheels

I didnt understand if you removed the existing pin or not. Did you remove the pin? Did you throw it away?

If you didnt take it out , its still in there. If not you need to get a replacement Throttle Valve Rod (7A380)- 85GT-AA. Your dealer should have it- doubt the parts houses carry it seperate from the valve.

Well I think I'm a little confused about where this pin is located exactly. Is it supposed to be sticking out of the mod. valve or what? I never saw a pin throughout the entire time of replacing the valve so I am clueless as to what it looks like exactly and where it's supposed to be.

The rod is in the trans case and connects the throttle valve with the modulator.
Its a steel rod about 1.5" long, and maybe 3/32" in dia.

Alright, thanks a lot for your help Steve! I really appreciate it. Just to make it more clear.. this pin is round in shape, no irregularities or anything? Just a normal, lil steel pin, right?

Yep, a rod with radiused ends, same diameter through out, no holes, flat sides or anything just a straight round rod.

Sweet, thanx again. Now that that's clear. Are you sure that once I get that in that it'l clear up my shifting probs (as long as I have it adjusted right)? And will it hurt anything to drive it like it is until I have the time to fix it?

I see the last post was last year but thought i would put in my two cents...I had somewhat the same prolem, and come to find out the vaccum hose was coming off at random. I fixed this problem by putting a small hose clamp on the tranny side of the hose...Haven't had a problem sence...Hope this might help...happy wheelin'

so I see yet another auto tranny is slipping!! Well heres the deal. My tranny is doing the exact thing yours is doing and i have lived with it for about a year!! I have replaced the vacum shift module and also removed and cleaned the speed govenor . All have failed ! Mine will shift fine when its cold but as soon as I go about 5 miles and come to a stop I have the problem your having. If you dont have the money to get the tranny rebuilt or replaced at the moment heres a little trick that I have been using for about a year. When you take off from a stop run it up to about 3000 rpm then take your foot off the gas and let the revs drop to between 1500-1000rpm then get on the gas again and it should shift fine. Like I said I have been doing this for a while and my tranny is not getting any worse (i wish it would so I have motivation to crawl under there for the weekend to replace the tranny)!
p.s. you deffinatly need that pin in place !
