I'm looking for a transmission for my 2007 XLT with 4.0. I found a 2005 XLT with same engine that runs and drives good but is rough cosmetically and has no title. I can get it for a good price. Current owner doesn't know what transmission it has. Will the the in the 05 fit? How do I tell what unit it has?

iirc youve got the 5r55s? and the 05 iirc has the 5r55w. will they work? idk. i want to say they are controlled the same way and internally iirc they are very similiar except for the OD band (wide vs selectshift iirc), so i would suspect so. but theres probably some minor differences im unaware of.

Look up the part number for each year and see if they match. If they don't then further investigation is warranted.

Primary difference between 5R55s and 5R55W is second gear ratio; use of one instead of the other confounds the PCM which detects unexpected shaft speeds in 2nd. gear as slippage of band or clutch.
