Has anybody tried replacing the EGR valve on a '96 V8 Explorer? There are two nuts holding the unit on, and I can bearly reach the lower one. Nothing I have will fit on because of the space limitations.

I haven't tried changing my PCV valve since I think that I'd have to remove the upper intake on my Mountaineer V8. I figure that if I'm removing the upper intake, I'm going to do some porting as well, but I haven't had the time to keep my vehicle down that long. How did you get to anything without taking off the intake?

Replacing the EGR valve initialy looked easy, until I tried to get to the lower nut and couldn't get any tool on it. I could feel it but thats as far as I could get. I tried twice. Replacing the sensors, 5, was a piece of cake, but the EGR looks like a major tear down just to get to that bloody nut. I have basically given up, and will take it to an independent and let him sweat it.

You need to read this post about removing the bottom nut. You just need the right kind(shape) wrench.
I have to do mine.

Well I replaced the EGR Valve.
It was'nt that bad. Top nut is 9/16" and the bottom nut is 1/2". A shorty wrench worked on the bottom nut(cut a 1/2" wrench in half if you have too).

1st picture is the EGR Valve. 2nd picture is where it is, Passanger side back by firer wall.
