Replacing Factory Subwoofer...

99 EB with the Mach system. Factory subwoofer sounds like a box of marbles and I need a new one. Found a nice aftermarket one that will drop right in. But I'm not sure which one I need. Is the factory subwoofer 2 ohm, 4 ohm, or 8 ohm? Thanks!

I went ahead and bought a JL Audio 8" 4 ohm subwoofer that was recommended here on the site. It's supposed to fit the factory box just fine and not be an obnoxious or hard hitting speaker...which is what I'm after. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I replaced the sub today and now its sounding like the good old days.

The sub I got even matched all the original screw holes perfectly.

Garth, what one did you get? What brand? What size? My 8" JL Audio fit perfectly, but I did have to drill new holes...which was about a 2 minute job. And the sound is perfect for me. I really like that sub.

Oh yea...I did buy the 4 ohm.

as a tip, you could use the same plastic box, replace the factory JBL amp thats attached, and really get some great bass out of this.

I did something similar in my Formula. It came stock with two 6.5" factory subs, mounted in the sail panels behind the driver and pass seat.

Well I replaced both with JL 6.5" Subs, then dynamated both sides of the car, making the body panels act as a ported box. The air was routed to the rear of the car, where, when reflecting off of the rear hatch, sounded GREAT! Oh yeah, i was only pushing about 100wRMS at maximum volume.

Anyways, you could do something similar if you wanted.

I couldnt find the kicker, jl nor exclipse so I went about looking at specs. I then found one matching the requirements with a name I was not famialr with but was so cheap I could not lose to try.

Bought it and it worked fine. Now I dont have to listen to any of the usual sounds my Ex make. I am jamming to some tunes from now on.

Its a SOUNDSTORM FS8 FORCE single voice coil.

I Just Installed a sub on my 1995 Ford Explorer with the JBL sound system...I installed a JL Audio 6W0 8 ohms....it fits..sounds great cost 89 bux and is not obnoxious...Hope this helps
