Replacing factory sub and amp

I was considering replacing the factory sub and sub amp with aftermarket gear in my 2003 EB. My questions are:

1. What wires go to the rear panel where the sub is located (to amp then to sub) and what are they (line level / speaker level)?

2. Can I replace the 8" sub with an aftermarket 8" sub in the same enclosure?

3. What kind of amp will I need (something with speaker level inputs?) and will it be compatible with the factory HU?

Any help greatly appreciated.

2. Several people have completed this task with either a RadioShack 8" sub or something comperable.

3. Any amp can do this with line level conveters.
