I burst the line going to the rear. It's freezing here and I don't have a garage to work in so I took it to a local shop and was quoted 370.00 to replace all the steel lines front and back except the ones going from the abs unit to the master cyl. I thought this was pretty reasonable but wanted to hear your opinions.

reasonable price.
as long as that covers all parts and labor, including bleeding the brakes of course.

All included yes.

Got it done for 340.00 tax and all.

My wifes cousins were just quoted $500 for a similar job on a Honda Civic. $370 sounds reasonable by comparison... It's all labor though. Bending and double-flaring of brake tubing is a bit of an art form, though there probably isn't $50 in materials in the whole truck!

good deal. He probably did it many times and knows the tricks, very common failure on these trucks. I was quoted around 700-800+ tax by two places and did it myself. The places weren't thrilled about the job either. Would have done it for that money.

Sounds reasonable and sounds like a good mechanic. Some mechanics would charge you $250 just to replace the front to back line that burst. Three months later, the across the rear axel line will go out and everything has to be re-bled.

Jamie,

I need the same thing done (All new brakelines). What shop worked on your explorer. I need them done A.S.A.P and that's a great price. In MD was quoted $900 for everything.
