Was just wondering do i have to remove my exhaust to get the transmission pan out. My transmission pan is just hanging but it wont come out. The only other option i see is lowering the converter, but i don't want to start fooling around with rusted exhaust bolts.Been down that road before and it wasn't any fun. Any ideas. Thanks

Re: Transmission Filter replacement

Thanks for the input. I will take a look in the morning the shaft didn't seem to be in the way. I watched a video on doing it seemed pretty easy, only difference is mine has two catalytic converters and its the second one that is the way if i only had one it wouldn"t be a problem. Thanks again

mine has 2 cats as well the only way i could get to the filter was to drop the front driveshaft

Going to give it a try today. Thanks

No dice. Tranny was no good anyway pulling the whole thing. Have to drop exhaust. Driveshaft off. Might as well go all the way

Had same problem on my 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer I just drop the front drive shaft U-joint move the drive shaft over to the driver side the pain comes right out. If you're replacing the transmission filter you will probably want to replace the gaskets on the valve body upper and lower and if you get the plate at the same time it will be a lot easier because I found that someone had use gasket sealer to secure the gaskets on the plate separator plate. There's like 20 screws holding up the valve body and 3 Torx bolts holding the separator plate on top. To drop the valve body after you take off the screws holding it up you will have to take off the bolts holding the servo motor on and then drop everything down being very careful keeping all the screws and order because the bolts holding up the valve body are different sizes and you need to keep very close track of where they go. I have a YouTube video of it I looked it up on YouTube and the guy did it but there wasn't a dual exhaust mine has a dual exhaust I had to move the drive shaft over but the replacement of the filter and the valve body gaskets was perfect and right on.

On our 99 Sport w/the 4.0 SOHC I had to unhook the front driveshaft at the front differential & swing it out of the way then I was able to slide the trans pan to the side & drop it out.
