Unbolt the seats, remove console, remove carpet and pressure wash it. You can spray it down with a house type carpet cleaner. A car wash works great- just put the carpet in the bed of a truck or on a trailer. Let it hang up for a few days, make sure it is completely dry. Works like a charm- your carpet will be like new.

thanks, lotta work ahead of me.

Its really not too bad- could be done in an afternoon as far as pulling the seats and carpet. Put the drivers side seat back so you can drive it for a few days while the carpet is drying, then put it all back together after the carpet is dry.

Agreed, or do the same and lay down a new carpet. Ford still sells the OEM stuff, and I believe J.C. Whitney sells aftermarket carpeting.

Hire an extraction carpet cleaner and use quality chemicals, I dont know if you get it there, but I use Johnsons high traffic carpet extraction fluid- I have my own office cleaning company and I use my equipment to clean my Ex! It is fantastic, just take out the seats and use the hand wand to direct the head- it will force hot water and the chemical into the carpet and suck it up in the same stroke- DO NOT OVER WET- to it several times if you have to- NEVER do the same area time and time again or you will soak the underlay and it will rot.

When i did my Ex the first time on top of the xpected dirt that I could see, I removed about 2lbs of sand from the pile-amazing! I do mine once a year after winter to get all the salt out of it- Looks like new still!
After cleaning and once dry- use a lot of Fabreeze if you still have a smell left and leave to dry fully- not that you should, but by then you may have got used to the smell a little-It would be horrible to have to explain the smell to a passenger!
