I know for a fact that my '98 5.0 EX goes duel pipes, then duel cats, then about 3-4 inches of duel pipes before going duel into my muffler then out the muffler single. Then the single pipe has the resonator on it AFTER the muffler, and then after the resonator it goes out to my tip. I can't seem to find any other systems with the resonator after the muffler. Is this normal? What's the difference between having the resonator before or after the muffler and what exactly does the resonator do? Thanks!

A resonator is kind of like a muffler. It uses a sound wave, reflects it back, and the reflected wave will cancel a similar wave traveling in the opposite direction.
