Return from Martinez Canyon, AZ (photos)

Yup, burning old x-mas trees. I always went to the burn at sycamore creek. some fun wheeling out there. mostly dry wash racing, but there's a hill called "The Widow Maker". Not as bad as it sounds unfortunatly.

I'm trying to picture how this is. Is it like there's a base camp, where everybody burns their trees, then they go wheeling? Or do they all take the trees with them on the trails, and then just stop and say, "Hey, this is a good spot" and burn the trees there?

There is usually a central burn pile. wheelin' in optional.

OK, cool. Because I was having trouble picturing all these guys four wheeling with Christmas trees tied to their roofs :)

We went to THaven for last New Year and we burned a Christmas tree. That thing was gone in seconds. It definitely helps remind you how dangerous they can be. The fun part about our tree burning was our tree topper. We happened to find a picture of a new J**p Grand Cheroke so, of course, we had to put on the top.

You people are so cruel. Funny, but cruel :D

I can see it now, a bunch of 4x4s headed to a central location (Truckhaven) with christmas trees on their roofs. Kinda like an offering.

Ya'll can have my tree to burn if you need it.LOL!

X-mas Tree Burn

The X-mas tree burn is a blast. We went three times last year. Really anytime after x-mas there is a x-mas tree burn out at sicamor creek. It is pretty funny to see all these 4Wheelers heading out of town with trees tied to the roof, and yes it is like an offering. It is mostly desert washes till you get back to the flat wash where the burn takes place then all you can see is HUNDREDS of truck and a HUGE bonfire. Last year the largest one we went to I had to throw the the tree as hard as I could to try and get it on top of the fire. The pile of trees had to be at least 20 feet high and 40 to 50 feet in diameter. The flame went up pretty high and you could see it for miles. We stayed there for a while then went back for some midnight wheelin. We had a blast, Unfortunaley so did a few other people and they had fun with way to much alchohal. Some Kids ran up widowmaker in the bed of a pickup at full speed and of course the truck rolled. We left after the third air evac came:(

Wouldn't a bonfire that big be illegal? Or is this like a sanctioned thing, and the cops come to supervise?

Since the creek is out of town and there are no "No Burn" warnings it is OK. The cops come a couple of times a night and look for underage drinkers, there are a ton, and anyone doing idiotic things. It is pretty cool if you stay in control and out of the way of the lunatics. We stay at the burn for a little while then we hed out for some night wheelin.
Saturday the 12th we are going to the x-mas tree burn and then Sunday the 13 we will be heading up to Crown King for the 2nd anual 4Wheelers Supply and Off Road Center Family Fun Run. If anyone is interested they will be meeting at the Southwest corner of Carefree highway and I-17 at 8:00am

That sounds fun. When you go, take pictures, if you can. I want to see how high this fire is

Will Do:fire: :D

I got three trees to tie to my roof this year. I took the neighbors when they put them out for trash pick up
:D

That's almost worth a picture in itself.

You know, last weekend I was driving around and I saw an Explorer Sport with a tree tied to the roof and the tree was just barely hanging on. It was watching its (albeit short and fulfilled) life pass before it's eyes. I turned off the road before I got to see it fall on the Honda in the next lane :(

Goto Clints post labeled, to all Arizona People for a report on the Tree Burn
