Hi everyone, its my first post here and I hope I will get some good advise....after reading some of the previous threads, I know i'm in good hands.

I have just been given a 91 2WD Explorer, it's in pretty good shape considering the year. I have two questions, the first is when i'm driving and I apply the brake, the rear abs light comes on and only comes on whilst the brake is applied. Has anyone heard of this problem before, what do I need to check?

My second question is about the tranny, when I got the truck it would only crawl in reverse gear and that was after raising the revs to around 3000-4000rpm. So, I replaced the filter and fluid and took out the reverse servo unit to check the o-rings......the o-rings looked fine. When I took the pan off, I was suprised at the amount of crud that was in the pan and also in the servo cover. I cleaned all the crud out and re-assembled the servo and pan and refilled the fluid...only to find that I actually put the servo together the wrong way by placing the spring after the piston instead of infront of it....I'm new to all this, so it's trial and error!!!
Anyway, that did not fix the reverse problem  ....So I have to strip it all down again to put the servo back together properly....and whilst i'm at that point, is there anything else I should be looking out for?

Your help in this matter would be very gratefully accepted.

Your valve body is also probably pretty well crudded up. I'd look for a series of two threads posted by TN_Explorer on rebuilding the A4LD valve body. You might want to completely change your fluid (threads on that too) and then pull out the VB and rebuild it, so you don't "reinfect" it with more crud.

All that said, it is possible that your reverse clutch is leaking badly, which would be a rebuild item, but the time spent in rebuilding the VB wouldn't be wasted in that event.
