Reverse is no longer working, yesterday tried to pull the car out and it kicked back, when I put on the gas the RPMs go up but I cant feel the tranny shifting into reverse like normal. Drive works but I have loss of power. I recently had work done, and I am wondering if it could be related?

Nothing I see there sounds related. You are a low mielage tranny overall, but also a long lived one years wise and heat exposure to the CAT wise. I am betting you have some major loss of pressure issues - leaks. I would guess the low reverse servo is leaking, the Intermediate servo is hard as a rock and might leak, and the OD servo same. I'd want to put a pressure gauge on it and see what your pressures are as a next diagnostic step.

If I purchased a new tranny, what would be a good price for a shop to drop it in?

Yes and no. I just drove it about half a block in 1 and it was chugging/shaking pretty bad. I called some shops and I can get a tranny $350 at the junkyard plus $350 labor putting it in. Is that my best bet or can the thing be fixed?

If they will give you a guarantee in writing that the transmission will last at least 3-6 months, maybe it might be worth a gamble if you don't mind spending time, money, vehicle downtime, and ATF. Maybe try to rebuild it yourself for about the same money (more or less). At least you will know the exact internal condition that way.

This car is the biggest peice of crap so I am not putting any more money into it. I am gonna get a 96-99 Explorer and sell/part out this car. Thanks for the help though guys.

Someone lock the thread.
