My friend has 2 RF punch z 12's but needs an amp. I am looking to sell him my sony 250/1 mono amp. It would be perfect for the 8 ohm version, sending about 125 watts to each sub, 150 recomended

But I am not sure if he has the 8 ohm or the 4 ohm one. Assuming he does have the 4 ohm one, would the amp be too much? I guess in reality the amp is probably not pushing 250 watts rms anyway, so he should be ok with it even if it is a 4 ohm. I am selling it to him pretty cheap, its an ok amp, nothing compared to the JBL I have now, but it works well enough, at least for what he wants to do.

Just tell me how you think that would work, thanks, I don't want him to blow his subs or anything....

Exactly what amp is this that you want to sell him? I know JL Audio makes a "250/1", but don't know of a Sony like that...

Okay, that amp is 500 x 1 at 2 ohms or 250 x 1 at 4 ohms...

If he has the 4 ohm version, you can wire them in parallel and that would be 2 ohms... That's too much power. So he'd have to wire them in series and get an 8 ohm load, which would only give him about 60 watts/sub... Not enough power. If he has the 8 ohm version and you wired them in parallel, that would be perfect.

Usually the sub will say somewhere on it what the VC ohms are... Try checking around the magnet and see what it says.

exactly.. its always better to have to much and turn the gains down than have to little and try to turn them up and introduce distortion..

yes.... now ppl are getting it!

good call dave, thats how I was thinking

ok, I will see what he has, although I agree, if he had the 8 ohm that would probably be optimum

thanks guys
