I have a Laptop that has a 15ich LCD screen in it. But, no longer use the laptop so I was wondering if it would be possible to separate the screen from the PC components and turn it into a overhead screen in my X. I don't really know how I would go about adding a RCA connection to the Screen. The Laptop does have a RCA out for connecting it to a TV or other monitor, but that is controlled by the drivers of the video card. I assume that I would have to change the configuration on the video card (hardware wise).

This might be a very far fetched Idea, but it beats spending a ton of money.

Thanks,
K

hmmmm..

i too thought of this, but seriously, its not worth it, cuz u could make a mount for ur laptop or something, so then u can still use all of its functions. If u have an svideo cable, u could use rca's that way to go into ur input on ur HU.
Also, then u dont have to buy a DVD player or whatever, and it will play mp3 and wmv and wav files and everything.
i dunnoooo, sorry if thats not a big help.

Sounds like way too much work for me

Separating the screen from the rest of the laptop wouldnt work. If you pull the covers of you will see a flat cable with about 10-20 wires that control the LCD matrix. You would still have to have some kind of controler card to operate the LCD. Not trying to be mean or nothing.

But someone determined enough to make it work could search high and low for longer cables, or extend it themselves... I agree, too much work. I'd buy a screen made for that sort of thing before trying to do it with my laptop.

Thanks for your opinions and suggestions. I think it was a idea spawned from to much bordem:) I did find an article where a guy did take the screen of a laptop and converted it into an extra monitor. He basically built his own circuit board to handle the digital to analog convertion needed for a VGA out connection. Pretty Cool, but not worth the effort in my book either.

Thanks, everyone:)
