I have recently aquired a 92 explorer xlt 4x4 and i have a clicking sound like something is rubbing coming from my front right tire i have checked the caliper pins and they are fine i have replaced the front right radius arm bushing and replaced my sway arm bushings i have also changed my outer u-joint ball joint still in good condition...:( Anyone have a clue as to what this may be coming from?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :us:

...Have you jacked that side up and spun the wheel to see if you could reproduce the sound??

Yeah and it appears to be something with my 4 wheel drive i didn't notice anything when i spun the tires with the tires locked and unlocked no sound... then when i was going about 20 down my road i kicked it into 4x4 and made a turn when they were locked and then the clicking noise came back... turned it off and it was still there unlocked the wheels and it went away... i then locked the wheels again when i got home from work and drove it down the street again and no sound... it confuses the hell out of me

The noise you have described is a classic example of an automatic hub engagement issue. Do you have auto hubs? If so you need to remove them, clean them up and ensure they aren't packed with grease..

I have manual hubs sorry I should have specified that before and thats why i am confused ...

Yeah thats is confusing .. Even though you have manual hubs I would try and eliminate a hub problem. Switch the driver's Hub with the passenger's hub and see if the problem moves to the left side..

ok sounds like a plan i will try that and see thanks for the advice
:salute:

check the manual hubs for grease also.. shouldnt be any in there but occaisonally you will get some grease work its way out of the outer wheel bearing and find a home in the hub. clean the manual hubs the same way as the autos. thank tbars and derocha for this info, its where i got it from.

do you think it can be a swaybar problem? or end links?:us:

the endlinks arent a rotating mass.. they wouldnt click repetetively, maybe just clunk a time or two from a bad bushing. i'd say the problem is in the hub.

true that!!!:salute:

Those are my Exact thoughts as well.

I removed my auto hubs and degreased them last week and my noise went away.....Then, it came back again today.

WTF

i took the hubs off and degreased them as well and so far i don't have the noise anymore so I think that fixed my issue... But do you guys have any idea what would cause a transmission to blow the fluid out when i take a long trip or go up multiple steep hills?? this has happend to me twice and if i let it sit and put more fluid in it goes back to running fine!!!!!!

i am thinking its possible i replaced the lines today so we will see but it looks like the cooler should be replaced..

how is the engine temperature? my dad had an old K5 blazer that puked up trans fluid on trips to the mountains. he thought the transmission was goin out making the motor overheat, replaced the cooler and turned out the radiator cap wasnt allowing coolant flow between the radiator and the overflow. kept hot water in the radiator, heated up the fluid, caused the trans to slip and puke fluid. $5 part fixed it, after a new radiator, thermostat, trans cooler/fluid.
