Heres another wierd one and I hope its nothing too serious. I HAVE A 97 EB. Last night my right headlight and driving lights went out. OK no problem, nothing a 10 amp fuse won't fix, the fuse was good though. I even tried switching a little higher, no luck though. Where do I go from here, anyone had this happen and can point me in the right direction? I run the higher 65/85 or something like that for headlights and really need that second headlight. Thanks for the good advise so far in the past:confused:

Usually the headlamp fuse is on the circuit with BOTH headlamps. If only one went out, I would disconnect it and run a 12 volt charge to it directly from the battery to see if it went bad.

The running lights might be on a seperate circuit so check that fuse. I can't imagine that the circuit for the running lights runs through the right headlamp only, but you never know.

Good Luck.

Brian

Loose or broken wire sounds like.

Fuse #8 in the interior fuse block is for the right headlamp and fog light system. It uses a 10A fuse.

Try using a test light or volt meter to make sure current is getting to the hot side of where the fuse plugs in.

I had exactly the same problem with my 97 EB about two years ago (right light low beam and fogs non functional). I tried the fuses, but all of them were fine. I even replaced the headlight - still didn't work. I ended up taking it to the dealer (still under warranty) and I believe it ended up being a relay (the relay that detects if your headlights are on & not on high beams - to allow the fogs to turn on). I will have to check my records when I get home and see what exactly they replaced but I am pretty sure that was it.

The fog lamp relay. That would make perfect sense.

Sorry for the delay... I checked my records and found out that it wasn't the fog lamp relay that was faulty. Ready for this? - I find this very ironic - it was the "lamp out" relay!! This is the relay that monitors if one of the headlamps is out! The part # is listed as F77Z*10K910*AA. Well, guess this proves that the more complex it is, the easier it is to break...

Well the problem is fixed now. It wound up being a broken wire in the harness up under the dash. The mechanic couldn't get to it without removing the dash so he bypassed it with another. We're not quite sure how the wire was broken, I was afraid that the high power headlights, 80w/100w.I was using caused it but I have talked to several machanics and they all agree that one of the fuses will go before the lights do any damage. So we'll chalk this one to another unknown. Now the only problem is that when you turn the lights on the computer reads headlight fault, or something like that. I just hit reset and its good but there has to be a place to reset that. Thanks for all the good inputs everybody.

Is the fog light relay something that goes out often? I just finished wiring up my fogs so they will come on with the parks. Others have done this with no problems. I'm still covered under warranty so if I ever do have a relay go bad, I guess I'll have to reconnect the wires before I take it in.

I finally had a right answer. :D

Good call spiper!!

Dan - no, the fog relay does not go out often. It sounds like you just changed the stock relay wiring so that it is connected to the parking lamps instead of the headlamps, right? Either way, you are fine (as long as the fog lamps you use are not too much higher wattage than stock).

Firedawgy - looks like you need to bypass that "lamp out" relay so you don't get the error anymore. I have no clue on that one, but I am sure someone here can help. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the info guys. I feel much better now.
