Hello!

I went to get an inspection and realized that my emergency brake does not work properly on the left side of my rear wheels. The right side seems to be working ok, but the left side does not. The working right side slows the car substantially, but the faulty left side allows movement when the "inspector" hits the gas.

I noticed that the brake seemed to be stuck. I removed the cable and could not move the lever at all. I took apart my left side (driver's side) parking brake. I cleaned everything up well. The lever now seems to move freely. I noticed that the short cable that runs from the cable junction (just in front of the driver's side rear wheel) to the faulty left emergency brake does not do very much when brake pedal is pushed and released. There is hardly any movement at all. I am assuming that because the right side is working ok, that the left rear cable is the only one that would have to be replaced.

As I need to get this parking brake working to get my sticker, any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

I have the same problem. I believe its the drivers side cable. Its goes from the wheel to a junction point under the drivers side door. Mine apparantly had a big "bubble" in the rubber sheathing. When I cut it off, I realize water must have gotten in there and rusted the cable to the point it does not move freely anymore.
It seems straightfoward to replace. Unhook one end form the back of the axle, and remove the other end form the junction point.

Last time I did my brakes, both of the "sissor" actuators for the parking brake were seized. I freed them up and lubed them and they are seized again 2 years later. I should use the brake more often to keep them free. I replaced both back cables when I did the brakes. They were also seized from lack of use.

If you unhook the cables at the actuator lever, you can watch the cables to see if they move when the brake is applies. Also, you can push on the actuator lever (has a rubber boot) to see if the arte seized

The actuator moves fine. Its definately the cable.
