Hey guys,
I am looking to get new rims to go with the lift that goes on in a month or so. I will go with either BFG MT's or Goodyear MT/R's - probably 33x12.50. Where is a good place to get new wheels and what backspacing should I be looking at? I will have 5.5" suspension lift + 3" body lift. Any reccomendations?

first of all, may i recommend the Pro Comp tires if your going w/ the BFG style.
as for wheels, it depends on what you want but a great place to order is from is National Tire & Wheels or Tyres International. they both have good prices and compete w/ each other for business so you'll end up w/ the cheapest package one way or the other. just pick up a peterson's 4wheel drive or any other and you'll find what your looking for in there. magazines are a great place to find good deals. when you call though, just don't ever settle for the quoted price. most of the time you can get shipping included and road hazard warrenties, mounting/balancing, etc for the same price.
as for backspacing, i always go with 3.75" or as much as possible that is offered w/ that particular wheel. w/ as much lift as you'll have, NOTHING is going to rub w/ 33's! you could probably even get off clean w/ thornbirds or even boggers.

once again, if you want to save a couple BIG bucks and still get a great tire, go w/ the pro comp's. i PROMISE, you wont' be dissapointed.

Olivesman,
I thought the price difference between 33's and 35's would be huge, but it isn't. I may got that route. I just sold my mechanics business so I am getting a bunch of stuff done around the end of March (4.56's, lockers, 5.5" lift, dual shocks and probably 35's) - provided the deal actually closes ;)
I'll keep you posted. Will know more in a week.

that sounds great. i really hope you like it in the end! do you think you'll be able to afford mt/r's? keep wheelin- russel

Russell,
The MT/R's are about 175 each if I remember right for the 35's. the BFG's are about 165 - never priced the ProComps. I take it you are using them - and you like them. What part of the country are you in? Checked your profile, but it's not listed...

sorry about that- i'm not planning on up dating my profile till i list my pictures and mod's. i am not currently running the pro comps, but i had them about 6 months ago. i had a set of 35's on my full size bronco. i went from tsl's to the pc's and felt a HUGE difference. it rode like a cadilac after i got them balanced. b/w the bfg's and the pc's, the pc's are way better ciped, have more agressive void pattern, and have better side wall tread, although there is not much to either one. i paid $450 for mine mounted and balanced from 4 wheel whole salers. that was when they were having a buy 3 get one free sale, but like i said, i talked them into free mounting, balancing and warrenties. i live in Georgia and didn't have to pay for shipping b/c we have a 4Wheel Wholesalers warehouse in atlanta. i checked it out and found that 4 wheel wholesalers still has the best price and want $140 each for 35's. if the good year's are actually $175, i would probably go w/ them just b/c they look so sweet!

Olivemans,
If you are in Georgia, we'll have to hit some trails in a few months when we are both done with the mods. I'm down in Fort Myers, but I have no problem making a trip out for some good trails.

I found the p/c's with Eagle 589 rims for 815 in 35's - probably the way I'd go.

sounds good. i'd love to go on a trip. maybe we could go hit telico or some other trails worth the time. have you thought about running chrome wheels? you could save about $120+. you can get the a/r tailgunners that look very similar to the 589's for half the price. but if you prefer aluminum, i would like to suggest the mickey thompson classic II's. they look even better than the 589's b/c of the bigger bullet holes but what makes them a great buy is the steel sleeved lug holes. they'll take a beating, unlike the 589's. i worped a set and trust me, you don't want it to happen to you. talk about a rough ride. they are also the same price, if not cheaper. p.s.- you'll like the pro comps. i give you my word. -russel
