Will 31 x 10½ inch tire go on a 15 x 7 inch rim?

I would like to put a 31 or 32 inch tire on my stock 94 xlt explorer and was looking for some feedback on this and how much body lift I need to do to achieve this? And why chart says 15 x 8 inch rims will work for 31x 9 ½ and no mention of 15 x 7’s?

31x10.50's will fit on a stock 15x7 rim. This should fit on a stock explorer with only a little bit of rubbing. To fit 32's I think you need at least a 3 inch body or suspension lift or you have to cut the fenders a little.

Thanks joey;
Why is the 15 x 8 rim so popular? Will the front tires rub on top or sides of the fender? Will the back tires rub as well? I’m loaded with questions.

I'm not really sure why the 15x8 rim is so popular but I think it's because you can fit such a big variety of tire widths on to it. 31x10.50 tires will rub the swaybar in the front and possible the part of the front fender that's near the bottom of the front door(does that make sense?). They will not rub at all in the back.

i have a '96 and 31x10.5x15's and i dont rub at all, you can fit 32's without a lift but you'll rub, atleast with a 96

33's with 2" coils
