Hopefully someone can help, I'll try to explain this as best as I can. Any information is much appreciated!

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer and I've noticed that when I accelerate, at the top of the RPM range, right before it shifts, there is a "ringing" noise. Not sure where it's coming from (seems to be coming from engine, under car) but it only happens when the gas is pressed and the car is accelerating. If i'm just cruising with the gas pedal pressed but driving at a steady RPM, it doesn't happen. If I accelerate, hear the noise, then let off the gas pedal, it stops. It's not a whine or squeal...it's a high pitched ringing noise. It's not extremely loud, probably only noticeable to me or if it's pointed out to someone.

I'm not sure if this was occurring before I installed the K&N cold air intake, I noticed it at some point afterwards, but maybe it's a noise that was masked by the stock air intake?

Thanks for reading and again, I appreciate any help that can be provided. This may not be a big issue but I wanted to see if this has happened to anyone.

Thanks!

Do you have a 4cyl Ecoboost or V6? If Ecoboost, could it be the turbo?

It's a V6 and no turbo. It almost seems like a bearing noise? I wish I had a better way to describe it. If I just accelerated to a higher RPM, hear the noise, then let off gas, it stops. If it doesn't shift to next gear and the RPMs are still a little high and I tap the gas pedal a little bit, I can hear it. I apologize if I make no sense...just hoping someone else had experienced this. It may be normal and I might just be over thinking things. I notice every little sound.

The sound is likely coming from the cold air intake.

do you feel that sound coming from somewhere close brake paddle under the steering wheel ?

i can't describe the sound exactly but i feel like whistling or blowing air

i have the same issue with stock Air intake

The noise doesn't seem too close to me...seems like it's coming from the engine bay but it's really hard to tell. It's not that loud but enough for me to notice with stereo off. It's not a whistling or howling noise, doesn't seem to be air related. It's a high pitch ringing metallic noise. I figured it would be hard to get answers on this but was hoping someone had the same thing.

Since you changed the air intake and then the noise started, it seems to me to be the easiest thing to count out by swapping the stock intake back in.

Agree. Start with the item you changed and work from there.

Like the old days, when kids would flip their air filter upside down, for more intake sound.
