I have a 1999 XLT AWD explorer and I'm wondering if there are any adjustments I can make to the vehicle to reduce the amount of rocking back and forth that the vehicle does when navigating over changes in terrain levels at slow speeds especially around a corner. I have changed the shocks a couple years ago and fixed a broken linkage on the sway bar but it still doesn't feel very pleasant. I've read that engineers recommended an increase of 2 inches to the wheelbase to help keep it from wanting to rollover as easily, but I'm not sure that would really address the issue of the whole vehicle rocking back and forth for a couple seconds after you go over a change in terrain/bump/etc.

Is this something that can be addressed or is it a non-fixable situation?

1) Stiffer shocks
2) New sway bar bushings, both front and rear
3) More aggressive or stiffer side wall tires. A complete rim and tire package with a lower profile tire will firm things up quite a bit.

Which shocks did you put in the last time you changed them? One of the bigger improvements in handling I did was putting in KYB shocks. You'd be surprised at the difference in ride and handling between shock mfgr's. For instance, the Monroe SensaTracks ride like crap, way to much sway and lack of ride control. Where as Bilsteins are very firm, some may say harsh but the ride control is excellent.
