Rotors

What's wrong with going with the stock Motorcraft rotors and pads? My brakes are fine right now, but when the time comes I was thinking of replacing them with the stock rotors (if the rotors need replacing) and the stock organic pads. I do not tow or drive aggressively.

Is there something wrong with the stock pads & rotors, or are other choices just better for the money? I in no way want to compromise safety but would not mind either spending less for the same performance, or spending more for better performance.

There is nothing wrong with OEM stuff
Sure there are better performing products out there but they are for performance.

If your vehicle is just that - a mode of transportation - there is no need for aftermarket products. If you are racing or towing then maybe a need will arrise.

I still have OEM roters, but did get high grade ceramic pads because brake dust drives me nuts! And ceramics are supposed to create less dust.

If you read back I had an issue with salt trashing my rotors and I dont want it to happen again. I hope that the better rotors will hold up better. I did not have this issue with my 2001 Expedition just with my 05 X or I would be using OEM rotors with ceramic pads. My 95 X did not have this issue either.

The after market brake parts are not just for racing. They don't fad as bad, are easier to modulate and have an over all better "feel", if your happy with our OME's fine but to say they are a wast is just plain silly and wrong.

Dude, I didnt say "waste" in my post..and didnt mean to make it sound like that at all.
There is no doubt that aftermarket products can be better, but not all of us need it.
My point was simply that OEM stuff is perfectly fine for the average person. But with that said, most of us here on this site usually like "better than OEM"

Learn how to spell?

hint: "quote" is spelled with an "E" at the end, it helps give the O and U the sound it makes.

guys lets bring it down a bit... theres no need to argue on here. we are all here for the same reason. we all share a common love for our Ex's - thats why we are here. as explorer enthusiasts we just want to learn and get the most out of our rides !!!!

so lets not argue, but instead lets here what each other have to say and build on it !!!

It was parked for a week without driving and it was windy. When I went to drive it I thought it was surface rust but evan after a month its almost solid pits and it vibrates like mad. I have seen better rotors in a junkyard after 10 years.
My main worry with the power slots is operation. I dont want them to be too agressive with the wife driving and I want to be able to just replace the pads next time.

i live 1/4 mile from the beach, and my rakes are just fine... did your rotors sit in salt water for a week?

well i would hope that your " RAKES " would not be affected by living near the beach lol...

sorry just had to say something lol

Correct, but you were the next person to reply about the necessity of aftermarket parts after my post. Forgive me for thinking you were replying to me.

2 - 3 Correct again

Oh... and the private message was not necessary...

Hello guys, thanks for explaining about why one would and would not want different brakes & rotors. I suppose another good reason for aftermarket rotors/calipers would be they can look better than the stock ones. As long as they stop the car as well or better than the OEM!

My wife had the stock brakes done about 15,000 miles ago and the replacement pads are fine so far. Mostly likely I'll go OEM Motorcraft when the time comes.

my point is you get what you pay for.

Next time check out tirerack.com they have great prices on Brembo Blanks.

Had a really bad experience with Brembo's from Tire Rack for my 2002 Ranger. Arrived in original Brembo packaging which was torn up with a small dent on one of the rotors. Did the install and suddenly my front brakes didn't work at all. After pulling my hair out, found that the exciter ring on one rotor was freewheeling and that both exciter rings were set up just slightly too far from the abs sensor. Nothing but poor quality control from Brembo. Tire Rack wasn't at fault.

It's just far easier to get rotors locally rather than fussing with mail-order parts that may have to be returned for most standard stock rotor replacements.

Dang I wish I woulda took pics of my rotors before I had them turned.
They were RIDICULOUS!!!
My OEM inner drivers side pad was gone.
And by gone I mean it was metal on metal, no pad left at all.
Im not sure why because all my other pads were fine.
I didnt even know it was down that low, considering I only put 3,000 miles on it and it had 34,000 at the time. I just "assumed" that the previous owner would have had them changed if they needed it.
The reason I still drove on them that way was because my ST is a part time delivery truck at dominos and I couldnt get the day off.
So I inflicted further damage to the rotor.
When I measured them the inside was almost 25% less than the outside.
The guy at Pep Boys was like WTH! What did you do to these things?
I just shrugged my shoulders and asked if he could shave em n he did but he broke a blade in the process :D OOPS
