Just replaced the rear rotors on my 02 and after adjusting the parking brakes I am not happy with the results. Seems that the coating on these rotors comes off and sticks to the parking brake shoes. I did clean up one side (shoes) with sand paper which seemed to improve the performance. Will be doing the same to the other side. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with these premium coated rotors. Maybe I should have removed the coating in this area before installing. The coating does not effect the rotor where the regular pads contact as this area experiences a lot more wear and heat and is removed quickly under normal braking.

What brand and what all was "coated"?

Only the hub portion should be coated (painted.)
The rotor friction portion (e-brake portion as well) will be coated in oil on Chinese rotors.

Premium rotors will not come oiled.
If the rotors had an oily film on them, that must be taken off first. It's just to prevent rust while being shipped across the ocean.

If any of the friction surface was painted, including the e brake portion, then those are some cheap rotors.

The rotors are from Carquest and are their platinum series. The box does not say who made them other than from China like everything else. They come completely coated in a silver grey type of corrosion resistant paint. I have used them before but not on a vehicle that has the shoe type of parking brakes integrated into the rotors. This coating normally burns off quickly on the rotor surface on the first application of the brakes but not so with the parking brake that does not see this type of application. I guess I could just apply the parking brake at highway speed and see if it comes off.

Whatever you do, use semi-metallic all the way around.
