i read in a couple threads that the rough cold start could be caused by the 00m12, how much would it cost to fix since my truck is no longer under warranty

Parts are about $50. I think they want like $250 for the install. But it's pretty easy to do yourself. Heck, my GF did it on her Explorer. :D

do i have to get the parts from ford, if not what should i ask for at autozone

Yeah, from Ford. Just ask for the 00m12 kit.

where can i find info on how to do it, i have the part now

I can email you a .pdf. Whats your address?

i did the recall and had the gaskats changed last winter and now on really cold mornings i'm getting a screwed up first start that usually stalls and then a second start that idles a little screwed up and then once warmed up it's good. and drives normal.
my truck sat in horrible cold (like a high of 10 both days) for 2 day both times unstarted.

i hope it's just the cold a not the gaskat again.
if it's the gaskat i'm gonna do it myself.

i did the gasket thing and still same problem

You did the M0012 recall? If this didn't take care of the problem, maybe you have a defective IAC valve. Lot's of write-ups on this issue also. What exactly does your truck do when you start it cold? Mine reved up to 2k then down to 500 rpm. Back and forth for couple minutes. Sometimes it would die but usually it would con't running cuz the IAC was doing it's job. Did the M0012 kit repair and mine runs like a champ.

well mine when i start it goes up to aobut 3k rpms and down to about 200 rpms the truck shakes and then sometimes shuts off sometimes goes back up. if i rev it up then it goes back down and off. i have replaced the iac, tps, maf, and the 00m12. i think it may be a vacuum leak because i have replaced the o2 sensors and get a lean code but only after i have had a rough start.

Take a propane torch. You know those little blue ones you buy. Put it on full blast but don't light it. Now start the engine on a cold morning and have someone keep it running if you have too. Take the torch and move it around the intake gaskets and anyplace else you might get a leak from. If your truck idle jumps when you put the propane near your gaskets you found your leak.

Other things to check would be to get a fuel pressure test and a vacume test to see if you have the proper readings.

BTW... M0012 will be taken care of by the dealer even if your warranty has expired.... it's a recall... with recalls it doesn't matter how old your truck is or how many miles you've got on it... don't do it yourself if you can have dealer do it for you for free...
:)

it isnt a recall, they call it a program and it is only covered up to 60k. i had them do it this time, the other place that did it didnt do it right, it runs fine now.

Ya, i just got my sport back from the dealer yesterday(They did the 00m12 problem)..it seemed fine when i drove it home. But i really wanted to see if it was fixed by starting it the next morning. So next morning came. And it started PERFECT. There was no hard shaking or stalling. It went up to 2000rpm, then down. and stayed there at 1000rpm. Before i got the 00m12 done, my sport would shake like CRAZY. I felt like i was off-roading...but not even moving!. yes. that crazy. Now that i got it fixed. It starts PERFECT. noticed a little better throttle response too. I highly recommend getting the 00m12 done if you havent already!
