Rover Halo Taillights on a BII??

Range Rover "Halo" taillights

OKay fella's I am looking into putting those wicked RR tail lights on my BII.

Does anybody know anything about them?

They look to be similar in size and shape as my BII tailights (not far from an Ex either) and I realize that this would require lots of modification to my truck and hatch potentially. But right now I am just looking to get some basic info on them before I go buy a set from my local Range Rover dealer......

Anybody own a Range Rover, what is it the 4.6HSE or something like that?

Robb, hahaha anything for my baby. I know those tailights are EXPENSIVE, I am just trying to see if it's even possible right now....

Those taillights are sick! much better then the alternative Alteeza, I have also been toying with the idea of building my own, or converting my stock lights to LED, custom.


Why stop at the taillights? The only thing on my truck that I have not customized to date is the frame, the carpet, and the lower 1/2 of the dash!!

257K miles on the frame and body, this BII is all custom and no project is too big to tackle.....

Now if somebody would just total their 2003 Rover and part it out on Ebay I would be set!! hhahaha I bet they are $300+ ea at the dealer......damn BMW parts....

So let me get this straight.. you're going to put $300 in custom taillights, replacing the tail lights that you have and (presumably) work fine... on a trail rig, just so a tree can bust em up? Sounds like plan to me

Making them fit is no problem as long as you are proficient in body work.

Its not a trail rig, this truck is my daily driver, it is also my tow vehicle, it is also a very capable off road truck

No I dont plan to spend that much for them

I am looking into this project, I have not bought anything yet

Dont you guys have hobbies? I mean why criticize? People do nutty things all the time, look at the Explorer's on this board, people will stop at nothing, spoend thousands for just a few horse power, or spend time and $$$ just for that custom look, whats so different about wnating to customize my taillights?

Have you seen BII tallights? They are not so bright or attractive.....

I tow an 18ft ski boat in teh summers with my 96xlt. the power is ok. a zuk would be a little more weight than the boat thought and with a sport the wheel base is a bit shorter. but ya will never know till you try.

If I tow the Zuk, I'll lower my Ex back to stock or lower and put on 30's for the reason you just mentioned. I'm sure i'd have the power (SOHC with 4.10's), just the wheelbase issue scares me.

I think its how you tow the Zuk really....the flatbed trailer is usually the HUGE part and pretty heavy. Using a tow dolley may be more feasible?

I tow a 19' Bayliner with my BII
The trailer and boat are about 3800# loaded with gear/gas. The trailer has brakes, so that helps a little.

My BII has been prepared for towing and without the mods I have done it wouldnt be possible. Even with my 33" tires and 6" lift the truck pulls the boat with no problems.

The OHV 4.0L has LOTS of torque and is well suited for towing. My BII isnt the ideal tow vehicle, but it works for what I use it for. I try to make 1-2 long distance trips a summer and keep the rest fairly short....recently I towed the boat FULLY loaded from CO to So CAL because Ijust moved here. That was quite a trip, the boat was way loaded up with our junk as was the truck....if I had to do it over again I wouldnt load anything in the boat.

with 4.10 gears, a huge tranny cooler, adjustable shocks, large sway bars, the super cooling package, rear disc brakes, heavy duty driveshaft, and a receiver bumper the BII does great......the wheelbase is pretty short for pulling a 22' trailer, but even with 33" mudders at 75 MPH shes manageable......

I'll flat tow just like JDraper tows his Zuk. He's got an '00 SOHC with 3.55's and 31's so I know power is not an issue. Heck, I'd probably even drop my Sport, put on 18's and a trailer hitch.. haha

what does a built 4x4 Zuki weigh? no interior, no hard top, gotta be about #3000 right? even with big ol tires.

Then with the tow attachment on the front its about 16' long total?

I wouldnt be too worried about it.

INstall a transmission cooler (aftermarket, larger one) and you can put a tranny temp gage on there and you'll be fine.

The braking would be the hardest thing on the truck, but just use some good brake pads, change your tranny fluid often and you'll be okay.......

my old boat was 2700# it was like towing nothing. #2300 is nothing for the SOHC, just keep it out of OD on the hills and keep on eye on the condition of the ATF in the tranny.......
