RPM gauge not working.

so I have 2001 explorer xls and since I first got the truck the rpm gauge has never worked. recently they have started working but only when I rev high and tap the instrument cluster. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I should do

Replace the cluster with one with working gauges.

That's what I did.

While it was apart I replaced all of the bulbs with LEDs.
