1999 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi all,

I just bought a 99 explorer xlt, and really enjoy it as my upgrade from my dieing out 95 explorer. Something I noticed tho is when I have the defrost or defrost/floor on, the rpm's go up from about 600ish rpm's to about 900ish rpm's when the a/c pump kicks on for about 2 seconds, then shuts off again and the rpm's fall back down to around the 600ish area....this I noticed while being stopped at a light. When in park, it changes from about 900 rpm's to about 1100 rpm's then back down again. Is this all normal?? I don't notice it at all on my 95 explorer at all, only on my newer 99 explorer. I checked the freon level to make sure that is full, and it is....so just wondering, is the a/c pump clicking on and off about every 2 or 3 seconds normal?....thanks guys for the help :)

Ok. I see, well, good luck with " "

Why did you leave it all blank?

2 to 3 seconds doesn't seem normal. Could be low on refrigerant.

I had that checked actually, cuz I thought the same thing after trying to do some searching online, but apparently that is full or proper level...any other possible idea's I could check out?

Sounds like you are either low on refrigerant or your clutch cycle switch is bad.

It depends on the ambient temp, when its relatively cool outside and/or the blower is set on a low setting, the cycle time can be pretty short.
