This started about 2 weeks ago. It sounds like some sort of rubbing or hum when the 4.0 SOHC is under acceleration. It's directly related to RPMs and not speed in general or a particular gear. It'll make the same degree of noise whether in gear or in neutral and I rev it. It's actually not that noisy or obnoxious, and someone that doesn't know precisely how his car sounds, feels, and acts probably wouldn't really notice it. I wouldn't call it a squeal or a grind or anything. It just sounds like a hum. It hasn't affected performance or anything like that. I looked up common serpentine belt symptoms, and it didn't seem quite like that was it but I'm not ruling it out. I did a quick visual check, and I don't quite know what I'm supposed to be looking for, but the belt looked fine - it's original with the truck, so it has 75,000 miles and is a 1999.
What does this sound like? And are there some other tests I can do to help diagnose the issue?
