What ever happened to the idea of running the Rubicon next summer? I would be game for late July or early August.

Paul -
Although still 10 months away, I'll commit now to a Rubicon Run sometime next summer. My schedule is somewhat hazy, but I'm sure I can carve out a week somewhere.
Did part of the Rubicon this summer, but that just whetted my appetite.
From what I've read and seen, this will be a
"modified-only" type run with body damage expected for anyone without lockers and 33's.
Look forward to running with you.
Keep in touch.

Well I have to say I am in! Dead Link Removed Hey Rick think you could add this to the list of future Serious Explorations on the main page. Then we can vote on a good date and get some action on this one! Dead Link Removed

Count me in! I suppose your going to want to take all the tough obstacles, right, just to make sure I get those lockers.

Ummm… Insert stupid question here.

“Were is this Rubicon trail located?”

The Rubicon is considered the "Grand Daddy" of four wheel drive trails. It's not the most difficult, but is arguably the most renown of all trails that were once used as "roads" that ferried personnel or equipment from one place to another.
The Rubicon is located on the California - Nevada border just outside of Lake Tahoe. The route is usually run from west to east starting at Georgetown, Ca.
Although it can be ran in a single (long) day, its recommended to camp at least one night on the trail.
Various publications routinely have articles about the Rubicon (4 Wheel & Off Road - Nov 99) as well as trail reports on Off-Road.com.

After the spring-over, 33's, and lower gears, I'm sure the lockers will be a mere pittance of funds... Dead Link Removed

I should have a winch by then, if not that there is always my trusty tow strap! Dead Link Removed With those great tow points on the front I should be able to pull you out of lots of things. Dead Link Removed

Hmmm! Sound like a great way to save limited resources of petroleum reserves. Also, I will definately not be breaking any drive train parts, so getting back home will not be a problem... Now that I think about it, I would much rather conquer the trail under my own power. Ryan, you can leave your tow strap home.

The world-famous Rubicon Trail has become the standard by which all other 4WD trails are judged. You must have a lifted modified truck with at least 31" tires and at least one locker. If you do not have anyone of these items on your truck, do not try to do the trail. Also it helps to have some rock crawling experience. This is not a run for beginners or those who do not have any rock crawling experience. You will get some body damage. If you have had some brakeage on your truck in the pass or know of some weak points, bring along the spare parts for those areas. If you brake down on the trail, it will be very hard to get someone to come in to fix it or get parts. The only way sometimes is by helicopter. The reason I am pointing these things out is because I have done this trail two times and once through the Little Sluice, and on both trips we have had trucks brake down. Even the best equipe trucks can brake down. Check out this web page www.4x4now.com/trlrpt.htm#california and go down the page until you get to the trip report called Rubicon '96. The title of the report is called The Rubicon From Hell.
On this trip we had 5 trucks brake down. One was a full size Bronco which I had to pull through 1/2 of the trail until we reached Rubicon Springs. It's bad enough to do it by yourself let alone pulling someone else behind you. So be sure that your truck is in top mechanical condition before you leave home. The trail is a great run and also very exciting. You will not forget it. The best time to do the run is in early August. In June there can still be snow on the trails and the trails will be closed. In July the Jeep Jamborees are going on, so we usually go in August. I though I would put my .02 cents worth in.

Okay...
We're a month closer - - anyone want to plug in a week next summer that we can all get together ??
