So my ‘04, 4.6l, Auto 4wd Explorer has started a new issue. It’s gradually getting worse. (Shouldn’t be the 4x “module” due to year of vehicle.)
When pulling away from park, especially when it’s been sitting for some time and usually when doing any kind of turn, I get this rotating rubbing sound. Not exactly in tune with wheel rotation and only at low speeds. It feels and sounds just like when when you veer off the highway onto the pavement grooves.
Seems as though it only occurs with a slight turn to full turn (out of driveway) and continues for some time once going straight.
All new hubs all the way around, well, they have 100k on them. I just replaced the right front hun again because it was loose when moving wheel.
The left rear axle bolt always seems to losen and I’ll retighten it.
I’ve recently replaced the u-joints when putting a new gas tank in. Somehow my markings on the rear yoke disappeared so it could be reversed.
Broke the trans brace lower bolts attempting to remove it for the tank swap. Never fixed but seems tight.
Once I gain any amount is speed, [or it could be distance, say 50 feet of low speed (<20mph)] the sound / sensation is gone. I can do 100 mph or drive from Atl to Alabama and never hear or feel it, until I’ve stopped for a bit. I’ve honestly not looked under the car again yet, haven’t had time.
