Hi all, just introducing myself. I have viewed this site for some time now and found it very interesting. I drive an Explorer NorthFace year 2000 in the UK. I have managed to fit some OEM running boards and now wish to fit lights to them. The light fittings which I got from the USA fit into the cut-outs in the running boards but I and my local garage have difficulty in locating the connections for the wiring harness. Can anybody suggest were exactly the harness connects?:(

Running Board Lights

I have an Explorer NorthFace (Limited) year 2000 in the UK. I have managed to fit some OEM running boards and now wish to fit lights to them. The light fittings which I got from the States fit into the cut-outs in the running boards The problem is locating were on the car the harnesses’ fit as they have appropriate plug in connectors and without taking the car apart to do this it is difficult to locate. It has been pointed out to me that maybe they fit under the car. It should be just a simple plug in job!!!
Does anybody know were exactly the harness connectors fit in the car wiring circuit and how to access those areas?:(

Running Board Lights

Thanks Danson, I know in theory were the links should be made. What I’m trying to do is connect the Supplied Ford harness directly into the car harness. I have contacted Ford USA and they say;

"You may purchase wiring diagrams, or other service publications, from Helm Incorporated; an independent supplier that ships Ford and Lincoln-Mercury vehicle-related literature directly to customers.
Please contact Helm Inc. for more information on the pricing and availability of the manual you are seeking."

Not very helpful, considering it is an original aftermarket Ford accessory with product codes etc. which they could lookup on there computer. :salute:

It should be just a simple plug in job!!!:(

Unless your car was born/made with the lighted running boards there is not going to be a connector/plug just laying around waiting to get plugged into.

You cut the plugs off your lights and extend the wires into the interior where you connect them ???? Whatever interior or exterior lights you want them to be switched on/off.

Running Board Lights

Thanks Bill.
The harness’ I got from ford have multi wire connectors attached complete with single wires for the lights. This is an original ford part direct from ford USA. They have taken all the hard work out of cutting into the car wiring. The problem is which/were does this replacement harness replace? :salute:

A pic of these might help.

Yep, that’s what ford USA suggested. But if anybody out there has access the ford parts database I can supply the part numbers so they can give me a clue as to where to start looking!

Can you post a pic of the harness so we can see the connection and the wires color ect.?
Does the harness end in a plug or just wire ends?

Sorry Bill but I can’t figure out how to post images to you. The two pairs of harnesses i.e. 4 in all assume two per side are as follows:

One is a Y harness with 3 connectors which are: single side is 2 pin square. The other side, one connector is as previous and the other is a round 2 pin connector, the wiring is white with red stripe and a black. (Ford Codes on the blue and brown tag: YL14, 14408, B255D) on the white tag (413850, 06/15/2000, BE313, 0690002B)

The other harness has two connectors either ends. One end is a large grey connector with five pins: Wiring white with red stripe, Black with blue stripe, Black, Move with yellow stripe, White with move stripe, Move with yellow stripe.
The other connector on that side is square with two pins: having White with move, the other Black.

The other end to this harness has: square with two pins: having White with move, the other Black. The other connector is round with 4 pins having: White with red stripe, Move with yellow stripe, Black with blue stripe, and the Black wire. (Ford Codes on the blue and brown tag: F77B, 14A583, J4CP6)
:salute:

Well Zorba, I've got nothing for you. I checked my manuals & CD disc and I can find nothing for runningboard lights. I think my stuff ends at 1996.
Sorry....

Thanks Bill, I have figured out one of the harnesses. The Y harness is for the running boards to connect the two light units together and the third connector to connect to the other 4 plug harness. I’ve had enough and have just taken the car to Ford to sort out. Dreading the bill, they charge 115 pounds per hour. Close to 200 dollars in your money!!!
