Im running a power wire to my battery and am completely clueless here. I read several other posts and they that there was a"grommet" "behind the e-brake" I am confused WHat does this mean? DO I have to take off the emergency brake to get to the thing or what?

I'd like to know this as well. I did it a dangerous way, through the space where the door is, although with no problems yet and don't anticipate any problems, but would like to do it a more professional way without having to drill. I only have 8 ga right now, but when i move up to 4 or 2, i need to run it in a better place.

There is a grommit, at least on older X's. It's a piece of rubber that you can drill through to get into the engine bay.

Where is it exactly located. I cant find it. Im trying to figure out if i need to drill a hole through my fire wall or not.

If someone could give a good description of exactly where it is or better yet a picture of it..I'd be most grateful

in my '98 it is behind the brake pedal. All it is is a piece of circular rubber and all you have to do is poke a hole in it with either a drill or a really sharp utility knife (drill is the better choice). There might even be a grommet that already has wire coming through it. You can use a grommet that is being used.

define "behind the brake pedal"

look at your fire wall from the engine bay in my 97 mountaineer there was a hole near the top that I was able to pass my power wire through...do a little investigating pull some carpet up.....

If you are doing it on your 03, there is a place on the passenger side that has 2 wires coming out of the firewall. If you pull on it, the grommet will come out, and you can put your power wire through there. I put 4ga wire thru with no problem.

You then lift up the carpet on the passenger side, and you will be able to pull the wire through.

I would take a pic, but the woman has my truck right now, so hopefully I will be able to sometime soon.

And it looks like this ('98):

The red wire is my 4ga inverter power wire. It may not look the same on an '03, but you should have a grommet where the parking brake cable runs through the firewall.

I see...I thought that was the gas line. It basically looks the same on mine. So I have to stab through that rubber boot?

Yup. Try to make the hole as small as possible and it will seal around the wire as you feed it through. I used a knife and the hole ended up too large, so I added another small grommet you can see in the picture.

i thought I saw something extra there. Thank you so much for the help!

It looks the same on the 03, except it is on the passenger side.

I ran mine down and under the truck. I have an 02. I took the 4 awg and ran it inbetween the inner fender and firewall. Theres a hole in the sheet metal ( make sure you use a ****load of wireloom so it dont rub thru your feed) than got some blue flex tube from lowes and ran the 4 awg thru that and secured it to the frame. under the carpet right behind the drivers side back seat is a gromet. I looped it up and thru there and up into the truck. Don't know if anyone wants to do it that way but just a suggestion. Will post pictures soon.

im about to run a 0awg wire through my 91. need more power and that will get me there with a new hole and grommet

okej guys but how its in an xlt 94 because i got the battery on right side and on this side i got the all AC parts to so were to go how with the engine heat if i go throuh the left side to the right its hot around there or ???

can i go on the right side any rubber somwere to go trough?? i cant see any !!! any body now ??

I have a 1/0 wire run through the brake grommet on my 03 Ranger. I may drill a hole toward the door to hide the wire better. just be sure nothing is behind where you drill & use a grommet.

Pull the carpet on the passenger side and follow the wires, you will find the grommet. If you feed through the inside of the cad to the engine bay it will be easier.

okey!!!

i got the engine computer on the wall on the passengerside take them away and go that way ??? to the engine room okey i see

well many thanx dano i will try it...thx alot....
