Runs Poorly When Cold

My 97 Explorer Sport runs badly when cold until it warms up a little. If I don't give the car gas then the idle is erratic and goes down to zero and shuts off. It will also go down to zero and shut off. As soon as I get even a mile down the road it is fine. Any suggestions, thanks for the help.

I'd say the IAC valve is going.

sounds like the culprit to me too...might just need to be cleaned. there are several threads on how to clean it around. Good luck.

p.s.--it hurts me so to see help being given to a gator fan.
