1996 Explorer 2 door
Hello,
I am new at this so please have patience. I have a 1996 4.0 2 door Explorer and it has 225K on the clock I think a lot of this vehicle and want to keep it as long as I can. Last year the fuel pump quit so the Ford dealer put a new one in. This year after the " check engine " light came on when it was running rough on a cold wet morning my dealer put new plugs, plug wires and a coil block in it. I add Lucas fuel treatment with every fill up but when there is a cold damp morning it can run rough at highway speeds. This usually subsides after about an hour. If this was an old caborated vehicle it acts like the choke was wonky. It seems to me it is a wireing plug that is making poor contact but maybe someone has had experiance with similar behavior.
When the engine light was on they told be it was a failure of #4 cyl. They recomend new injectors and " throwing parts at it" until it stops running rough.
Thanks,
Bingorn

Get yourself a spray bottle full of water, and start the truck up. With the spray bottle spray the cap and plug wires to see if any of them are arching out.

I've had new plug wires that were bad before too. You also should run the code on the check engine light. That sould point you in a direction also.

Hope this helps,
Tony
